Activity Group:

Ancient Greek Drama

Activity

The Group explores Ancient Greek Drama. Ancient being 5th century BCE, Greek ie produced in Athens and Drama including comedy (which had a happy ending and was also funny, not to say bawdy!) and tragedy (which explores the darker aspects of human nature). In order to fully appreciate what the ancient dramatists, Aristophanes, Sophocles, Euripides, and Aeschylus, were saying, the group looks at the society, culture, and context in which the plays were written. Greek drama is not dry, its characters are immediately recognisable and its themes universal and eternal. We have great fun exploring Ancient Greek Drama.
