Activity Group:

Architecture

Activity

You don’t need to be an architect or even have a detailed knowledge of architecture to enjoy our group. When it’s done well, architecture can lift the spirits, and we’d like to invite you to come and share our enthusiasm for the subject.

Each month one or more of our members gives a presentation on a topic of interest to them. We encourage everyone to participate although there is no compulsion to do so.
Some of the topics we have covered recently are:
· St Basil’s Cathedral, Moscow
· The architecture of St Albans
· Architectural Blunders
· Oranges and Lemons: a virtual walking tour around central London
· Temporary Buildings
· Arts for Arts Sake – a brief history of architects and their buildings 1880-1930

Please click on "Programme for 2022" below for details of this year's programme of meetings.

During the spring and summer we also hold a series of guided walks. These involve a leisurely stroll around one of the local villages, and along the way we stop and look at some of the notable buildings.
We're currently unable to accept new members, but if you are interested in joining our group please let us know.

Where and when

The group meets at 2.00 pm on the fourth Tuesday of the month, and meetings are held in the Methodist Church.

Quite a few people contacted me to say that they had enjoyed the end of year quiz. I can honestly say that I wouldn’t have scored many points linking the architects to the correct building without a bit of help from Google.
