Our first meeting of 2022 was well attended and we were very pleased to welcome a new member of the group and look forward to meeting other new members. We are now up to twelve people which means we have a short waiting list. We had cancelled the January meeting because of Omicron so we discussed two books. The first “Lamplighters” by Emma Stone was based on the mystery of the disappearance of three keepers in a lighthouse who all disappeared leaving no clue as to why or how the tragedy happened. The contrast of life in isolation on the “Maiden” and life at home with all sorts of sub-plots proved a fascinating read. Our second book was so different (the joy of a book club) because it was a series of short stories “What we talk about when we talk about Love” by Ray Carver. The discussion proved interesting and the consensus of opinion was that we found the tone of most of the stories a bit dark and sad. The author is American and an alcoholic so perhaps that colored the text for us!!
