Charity Concert featuring The Jordan Jammers and Phoenix
This event was first and foremost a charity event and the response from HWu3a members and others was tremendous. 180 tickets sold and scores of cakes donated to a cake sale.
At the start of this evening of live music organised by Carole Clementson on behalf of Bowel Cancer UK, see link below, Carole thanked everyone for accepting her invitation to support her fund-raising efforts. She reminded people of the vital work carried out by Bowel Cancer UK, the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity, who are determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. And, most importantly, Carole emphasised the need not to ignore any symptoms but urgently follow up on any of the possible warning signs. It could save their life.
The Jammers played their first half hour set followed by Phoenix on what I believe was their first public appearance. There was an extended refreshment break then The Jammers ‘took to the stage ‘again. Their final number contained the line, ‘Alan wants to boogey’, which was a nice touch as Alan’s image was displayed on the screen behind the band.
Phoenix played their second set with some aplomb before both combined to produce rousing covers of Chuck Berry and The Monkees hits. By this time, many of the audience had taken to their feet and were dancing in the aisles. A fitting end to a great evening. Thanks to all band members and helpers. Dave Martin
‘A huge thank you for all those involved in making the evening such a success especially the members of both bands who were the stars of the show.’ Carole Clementson.
