November speaker report.
Allow me to introduce you to Roxanne and Pliskinella. Those of you present at the talk will know that Roxanne was the lady who gave a super talk about her experiences belly dancing, with a snake and also fire eating.Unfortunately, Pliskinella could not be with us but we learned plenty about her including her age and sex. (41 and male -> female). Roxanne’s account of how she rescued Pliskin (as was) and nursed him to good health was interesting in itself but then how the snake, a royal python, was incorporated into her act was intriguing. The several incidents involving an escaped snake were very entertaining for the audience, maybe not so much for the people involved. Roxanne herself was the victim of two snake bites!
If this sounds dangerous enough, the second part of her talk featured FIRE! Again, there were no actual flames in the Methodist Church but we were given instructions on how to go about fire eating and even ‘body burning’ but with several warnings and two more accounts of mishaps.
Throughout her career, it became evident how instrumental her father, Digger, (AKA Del Boy) had been with both the belly dancing and the fire acts. For the latter, he had arranged a surprise lesson in fire eating and the rest as they say ….
We were also treated to some modern belly dancing (Shaabi style) and this together with some great anecdotes made for a memorable morning.
