A virtually full room this month no doubt in anticipation of another talk from Gill Freer. This time the title was the mysterious “From Castle to Workhouse”. The castle in question was Bamburg, possible better known as Bebbanburg from “The Last Kingdom”, and the temporary resident was in the 19th Century as opposed to Utred in the 9th. The good part was Gill was able to visit the castle and see where her ancestor stayed and possibly even sat on a chair she used. The talk was in three parts with the second illustrating just how complicated, and time consuming, it can be to sort out the relationships in mixed family groups. It is however so satisfying when the pieces finally come together. The third part concerned the “Hornblower of Ripon”. So if you are ever in Ripon Market Place at 9 o’clock at night you can hear one of the successors to Gill’s ancestor.
For the May Meeting please remember to bring along an object or a photo you can talk about to a small group.
There is a VE Day event in the Market in Market Harborough on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th May. Katrina Friess and I will be at one of the stands promoting Family History. If you can please come along and support us.
