A fairly quiet morning at Sywell Country Park. Out on the water we watched Common Tern hovering, then diving into the water attempting to catch fish. Far more successful was a Cormorant which had caught a whopper and we watched fascinated as it struggled to get it down! Nearby we admired one of many Great Crested Grebe but this one had its offspring with it, still with its stripey head. A surprise was to see a few Pochard amongst the Tufted Duck and Mallard. Walking around the reserve an eagle eye spotted a Reed Bunting in a hedge, far more obvious was a charm of Goldfinch and a few Grey Heron dotted around the shore. At the Spindle End suddenly the sky was full of House Martin and Swallow before they all disappeared again. Just a few dragon/damselfly about – Migrant Hawker, Common Darter, Azure and Common Blue. Even less butterfly – a Speckled Wood and a Red Admiral.
