Our outing to Fermyn Woods, as expected in July, was pretty much birdless, certainly nothing of any note! However a great morning was had spotting all the butterfly and dragon/damselfly. Butterfly wise we set eyes upon Small Skipper, Large White, Small White, Speckled Wood, Meadow Brown, Gatekeeper, Ringlet, Red Admiral, Painted Lady, Comma and Common Blue with highlights of Silver-washed Fritillary (pic above) and Purple Hairstreak. Damselfly seen were Common Blue, Blue-tailed and Small Red-eyed whilst Migrant, Southern & Brown Hawker, Emperor, Four-spotted Chaser, Common & Ruddy Darter were the dragonfly we saw. A brilliant place to go if Lepidoptera and Odonata are your ‘thing’. Some pics below.
