Birding Thursday – April Report

In view of the petrol crisis I thought that this month we would repeat an outing the group last did in August 2008! We caught the X7 up to Great Oxendon and then walked back to Little Bowden via the Brampton Valley Way. Hoping to hear and even better see some of the early warblers we weren’t disappointed. Blackcap, Whitethroat (pictured above) and Willow Warbler were all heard before we managed to get some sightings; for most of the group the first of the year. Other noisy birds seen were Chiffchaff, Skylark, Robin, Blackbird, Wren, Blue, Great and Long-tailed Tit. On the ponds were some Moorhen, Canada and Greylag Goose. With no café at the end of our walk we stopped for a drink mid-walk at the Waterloo Farm Leisure café. A unusual morning’s very green birding!
