Our outing this month was to the Nottingham Wildlife Trust site at Attenborough chosen specifically so as to meet up with former member of the group Tony Cook who now resides in Nottinghamshire. Formalities over we set off in glorious May weather around the Tufted Duck Nature Trail which gave views over the main bodies of water and the River Trent. Around the Visitor Centre, views were had of Oystercatcher, Little Egret, Great Crested Grebe and Reed Warbler. Nearby there were several Lesser Whitethroat in full song but sadly none to be seen! Better luck was had as we made our way around the reserve with sightings of Blackcap, Garden Warbler (pictured above, thanks Graham), Whitethroat, Chiffchaff, Reed Bunting and even a fly past glimpse of a Cetti’s Warbler. Amongst other stuff seen around the reserve were Grey Heron, Common Tern, Sand Martin, Swift plus the usual Geese, Gull and Duck. A few early blue damselfly were out and butterfly wise Brimstone, Orange Tip, Peacock and Red Admiral.
