Another successful day for our celebrations as part of National u3a Week. Three different groups of people set off at various times from Welland Park in the town. Each group was walking different distances 7, 4 or 3+ miles. It was a great opportunity for existing walkers and potential members thinking of joining HWu3a to chat to others, ask questions, as well as enjoying the sun on an early autumn day in the local countryside. A couple of ideas, too, on potential new activity groups.
Here is the 7 mile group that set off towards Lubenham, stopping later on for a picnic lunch overlooking the beautiful countryside from the hill at East Farndon.

Sessions to have a go at playing Petanque were fully booked. Members and visitors enjoyed learning new skills playing on the pitch in Welland Park in Market Harborough. You will recall that it was as a result of member Kevin Millard’s vision of having a pitch in the Park and working with Harborough District Council that it was opened earlier this year. Here you can see players concentrating while deciding whose boule is nearest to the jack.

Harborough Welland u3a worked in partnership with Leicester Croquet Club to give members and visitors the opportunity to try their hand at croquet.

Celebrating u3a National Week is continuing to be very successful. On Monday morning Councillor Phil Knowles of Harborough District Council joined members at the Methodist Church to watch a film prepared by our own Movie Group to celebrate 25 years of the Millennium Tapestry (now hanging proudly in the Council building in Adam & Eve Street). Two of the original members of the former Market Harborough u3a were also present. Afterwards members enjoyed several songs performed by HWu3a’s Ladies’ Choir.
